Man of Steel: Michael Shannon Confirms General Zod’s CGI Suit
Ed’s photos of Michael Shannon on MTV Splashpage
Over the past summer, director Zack Snyder was in Illinois filming Man of Steel, a Superman reboot. After many hours on the set, and with a little luck, I was able to take a few pictures of General Zod, who’s being played by actor Michael Shannon. The first photo that I took was during filming on the Kent Farm. It shows actors and maybe stuntmen in motion capture outfits with Zack Snyder. Because of the grainy image, many doubted what seemed to be Michael Shannon in the photo. After an MTV interview about the movie Take Shelter, Shannon was asked about his role in Man of Steel. This is where the actor confirms that he is the one in my photo. While fans contemplated what General Zod’s costume was to look like after CGI, I capture another photo of Michael Shannon in an actual black outfit that would lead to a second article on the MTV Splashpage. These articles can be found via links bellow.

Here’s my Vimeo page that contains work I’ve done with AE. These are sample visual effects that use cloning techniques and a green screen.
Converting a 2D Photo into 3D

The picture on the left was used to create the effect in this video. I used basic layer editing between Photoshop and After Effects. In PS, I made several layers that would later be imported into AE to create a depth of field. Touch ups consist of basic blur, blending and curves.
